Singer Fola Recounts Arrest on First Day in Lagos
Fola has revealed he was arrested on his first day in Lagos, an experience that nearly ended his music dream.
He said resilience helped him push through and adapt.
Singer Folarin Odunlami, known as Fola has spoken on his police arrest on the day he moved to Lagos to continue his music career.

The “Alone” crooner said the experience left him discouraged and almost made him abandon his ambitions.
In an interview with The Beat 99.9 FM Lagos, Fola explained that his resilience has kept him going and helped him adjust to the fast-paced lifestyle of the city.
He said: “I relocated to Lagos in 2018 to pursue my music career. It has been rough but… I wasn’t born here, so it was so hard at first but I have adapted to both the living conditions and the hustle. The very first day I came to Lagos, I assumed arrested. I slept at the police station. It was a long story. I don’t want to remember it. I almost gave up.”
Fola’s breakthrough came after he signed with Bella Shmurda’s record label, Dagbani Republik, in October 2024. Since then, he has gained recognition, collaborating with Afrobeats heavyweights like Wizkid and Kizz Daniel.
