Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo Warns Women Against Financial Dependence on Men
Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo has urged women to stop depending on men for financial survival.
He emphasized that true dignity lies in independence, stressing the Bible teaches hard work and self-reliance.
Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, founder of David’s Christian Centre, has cautioned women against depending on men for financial support, stressing that the idea is cultural rather than biblical.

Speaking during a sermon, the clergyman explained that the Bible emphasizes hard work and self-reliance, not relying on others to meet one’s needs. He maintained that women should embrace independence instead of waiting on men to provide.
He said:
“It never favors you. That thing was a cultural idea. It’s not biblical. That a man should take care of a woman. It’s not biblical. What the Bible says is that he that does not work should not eat. Okay, before you marry, how were you surviving? Before you had a boyfriend, before you had a fiancé, how were you surviving? That’s the question.”
The pastor added that many of the arguments women make about depending on men are what he described as “poor people talk.” He explained that those who come from wealthy families are properly educated and supported, unlike women who rely on men who can only provide small things.
He continued:
“A boy that buys you puff puff, the way he will squeeze you like puff puff.
And the way some of you are being treated is because of how you have rated yourself. If you don’t buy me popcorn, I won’t come. Then the way they will pop you like corn. They are disgracing your family.”
Okonkwo added that women should know their worth and not reduce themselves to relationships built only on money. He reminded them that real dignity comes from being independent and responsible.
