FG Releases ₦29.2bn Basic Healthcare Fund to States and FCT for 2025 Services

The Federal Government has released ₦29.28 billion to states and FCT for 2025 healthcare.

The funds target vulnerable groups, boosting primary health services under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.

The Federal Government has disbursed a total of ₦29.28 billion to Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of the 2025 Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF), aimed at improving primary healthcare delivery across the country.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the allocation, covering the first and second quarters of 2025 is targeted at vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, children, and citizens needing emergency or routine primary care.

Residents have been encouraged to contact their State Social Health Insurance Authority (SSHIA) to confirm eligibility and apply for a HUWE card. Registration involves visiting an accredited primary healthcare facility with a valid form of identification and a passport photograph.

The BHCPF, established under the National Health Act of 2014, receives at least one percent of Nigeria’s Consolidated Revenue Fund annually to support essential health services at the primary care level.

Public health analysts believe the latest release, if managed prudently, will expand access to basic health services nationwide, reduce maternal and child mortality, and strengthen the country’s primary healthcare system.
