Customs Shortlists 286,697 Candidates For CBT In Recruitment Drive
Nigeria Customs Service has shortlisted 286,697 candidates for its second-stage online recruitment test.
Officials say the CBT aims to ensure fairness, transparency, and competent workforce deployment for improved border management.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has revealed that 286,697 individuals have been selected to take part in the second stage of its current recruitment drive, which will be held via an online Computer-Based Test (CBT) from September 14 to 21, 2025.
The update was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by the NCS National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, who emphasized the service’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and accessibility in the recruitment process.
According to Maiwada, the service received 573,523 applications for 3,927 vacancies across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres. Following rigorous screening, nearly half of the applicants advanced to the CBT stage.
This recruitment exercise, approved earlier in the year by the Federal Government, is part of NCS’s statutory mandate to strengthen the workforce and enhance border and trade management.
Maiwada explained that candidates can sit for the CBT from any location with stable internet access but must use a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and full-screen display. The application is not mobile-enabled.
He highlighted key rules:
- Facial verification will be required at login.
- The system is sensitive to noise, movement, and background distractions, which could lead to automatic logout.
- Switching between windows will be flagged as malpractice and may result in disqualification.
“Candidates must remain fully focused throughout the test. Excessive movement, whispering, or distractions could terminate the session,” Maiwada said.
To help applicants, NCS will hold a mandatory pre-test session two days before the examination. Separate links will be provided for the pre-test and the main CBT.
Candidates applying for the Superintendent Cadre (Level 8) will be required to undergo an additional CBT at the next stage of recruitment. This requirement does not apply to the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.
Maiwada reassured applicants that the process remains strictly merit-based. Successful candidates will be informed of subsequent stages only through official NCS communication channels. He cautioned applicants against fraudulent actors, stressing that the service does not request payments or conduct recruitment on social media platforms.
