During a press briefing in Kaduna on Thursday, Muhammad Imam, Director of Media and Public Affairs of the Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders Discussion Forum, said Kebbi, once known as a peaceful state, was becoming unstable.

He claimed that Malami’s recent visit to the state was marked by the presence of armed youths, leading to clashes that injured people and damaged property. “Footage circulating online clearly shows armed youths moving with him through town, escalating tensions and triggering violence,” Imam said.

The group alleged that Malami was mobilizing crowds even though political campaigns had not officially started and warned that violence as a political tool was spreading across the region.

Imam criticized security agencies for not acting decisively in Kebbi, pointing out that other states had taken stronger measures against similar threats. He urged the police and the Department of State Services to step in quickly to prevent Kebbi from becoming a hotspot of political violence.

The forum also asked civil society groups and the media to closely monitor events in the state, warning that silence could embolden political actors and endanger the fragile peace.
