Four Killed, 15 Injured as Rival Cult Groups Attack Funeral in Anambra
Four people died and fifteen were injured after suspected cultists attacked a funeral in Ogidi.
Anambra Police launched an investigation and vowed stronger action against cult-related violence statewide.
Four people have been confirmed dead and at least 15 others injured following a violent clash linked to cult groups at a funeral ceremony in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Thursday, September 11.
Eyewitness accounts said suspected cult members stormed the venue of the burial and began shooting indiscriminately at mourners.
The Anambra State Police Command stated it has launched a covert investigation to track down those responsible. According to preliminary findings, the attack appears to be the result of a feud between rival cult groups.
Police officers from Ogidi Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, were quickly dispatched to the scene, restored order and evacuated the injured to nearby hospitals. Sixteen used cartridges were recovered during the operation.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, strongly condemned the attack and pledged that the Command will intensify efforts to curb cult-related violence and other criminal acts in the state. The Command also urged residents to stay calm, remain vigilant, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
