Anambra State Government Denies Rumors of Second Airport Project

Anambra State Government denied reports of building a second airport at Ndikelionwu, calling them false.

Officials said Governor Soludo’s inspection of the Industrial City project was only for feasibility studies.

The Anambra State Government has dismissed recent media reports claiming it plans to construct a second airport at Ndikelionwu in Orumba North Local Government Area. The administration described the story as baseless and speculative.

Officials believe the rumour may have been triggered by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s recent inspection of the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City (AMIC), which some may have assumed would include an airport of its own. In reality, as part of the governor’s Urban Renewal and Development Strategy, different transport options including rail and air facilities are only being assessed for long-term feasibility within the AMIC master plan.

The inspection visit was to begin technical studies aimed at identifying potential sites for future transport systems in and around the Industrial Park and proposed city. However, no decision has yet been made to build an airport or railway line for AMIC.

The AMIC project itself spans 4,000 hectares and combines a mixed-use industrial park, a pharmaceutical hub, and a planned urban city with business districts, education and health facilities, innovation centers, tourism infrastructure, and residential areas designed to accelerate industrialization and sustainable growth.

The State Government stresses that any decision to establish a railway or an airport will be formally communicated through official channels. Members of the public are therefore urged to disregard the circulating report and rely solely on official announcements for verified information about major projects in the state.
