According to Police Public Relations Officer DSP Udeme Edet, who issued a statement on Friday, September 12, 2025, the arrests were made on August 31, 2025, during a routine stop-and-search exercise at Orokam Junction along Obollo Afor Road. Officers from the Orokam Division intercepted a vehicle at about 5:05 p.m. and found a large bag filled with 34 mobile phones, three laptops and two MP3 players.

The suspects were identified as 21-year-old Mujahid Mohammed, 21-year-old Yahaya Abdullahi and 28-year-old Kalipha Mohammad, all residents of Mararaba, Nyanya in Abuja. Police said the men admitted to being part of a robbery gang that has targeted homes in Orokam and Nsukka, Enugu State. They allegedly confessed to breaking into six flats in the Umukasi area and ten flats around St. Theresa’s in Nsukka.

The statement noted that the gang’s leader, 27-year-old Abba Mohammed, managed to escape with their weapons and is still on the run. Security agencies in Benue, Enugu and Gombe States are now working together to apprehend him and trace the owners of the recovered items.

Commissioner of Police Emenari Ifeanyi praised the prompt response of the patrol team and encouraged residents to provide timely information to help improve community safety.
