Sosoliso Crash Survivor Kechi Okwuchi Undergoes Eyelid Surgery
Sosoliso crash survivor Kechi Okwuchi shares recovery update after undergoing new eyelid reconstructive surgery.
She reveals the procedure was vital to protect her vision and restore comfortable blinking.
Kechi Okwuchi, singer and survivor of the 2005 Sosoliso plane crash, has undergone another reconstructive procedure this time on her eyelid.

Okwuchi, who rose to international recognition as a finalist on America’s Got Talent, has undergone around 140 surgeries since the December 10, 2005 crash that killed 106 people, including 60 of her schoolmates.
Sharing an update on Sunday, September 14, 2025, she posted photos from her hospital bed three days after the operation, radiating her characteristic optimism.
According to her, the surgery became necessary because tight skin around her eyelid had begun to interfere with her ability to blink and close her eyes, which was starting to affect her vision.
“Three days after my eyelid procedure, I’m adjusting and healing. The skin had become so tight that blinking and fully closing my eyes were hard, and it began to impact my sight, so this step was unavoidable. My last surgery was in 2019, so it feels strange to return after such a long break,” she wrote in her update.
Despite the challenges, Okwuchi continues to inspire her followers with her resilience and determination to recover fully.
