Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has both addressed and resolved a controversy surrounding false claims about her health. She publicly shared her HIV test result on Instagram to debunk rumors while also forgiving TikTok content creator Segun Olaoluwa, who made the allegations.
A few months ago, Segun released a video naming Amusa among five Nigerian actors allegedly living with HIV. The claim quickly went viral, prompting the actress to debunk it and file a police petition against him. Acting on her complaint, police arrested Segun and he spent several days in detention.
In a video released on Monday, September 15, Segun described his time in custody as the worst experience of his life since losing his mother and apologized to Amusa for the false claim. Responding in a new video on Tuesday, the actress announced she had forgiven him and requested that the case be closed. “To err is human and to forgive is divine,” she said, adding that she was moved to compassion after learning about his mother’s recent death.
That same day, Amusa posted her most recent HIV test result on Instagram to reaffirm her negative status and encourage regular health checks. She reminded followers that she had previously shared a similar test result in 2019 as part of a public health campaign to raise awareness. “It is better to know your status so that you can guide yourself and save others too,” she wrote.
