Flight Attendant Reports NCAA DG To Irish Aviation Regulator Amid Job Frustrations

A Nigerian cabin crew graduate reported NCAA boss Chris Najomo to Ireland’s aviation regulator.

He accused the agency of neglecting employment promises, drawing attention to Nigeria’s aviation job crisis.

A Nigerian cabin crew graduate has escalated his grievances over unemployment by reporting the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo, to the Irish Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The disclosure was made in a post on X by NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu, who confirmed that the complainant copied him in the email sent to the Irish regulator.

According to Achimugu, the cabin crew graduate accused the NCAA leadership of failing to provide automatic employment for him and other licensed cabin crew graduates in Nigeria.

The message, which he described as laced with “inflammatory language,” painted a bleak picture of the Nigerian aviation industry and heavily criticized Najomo.

“This guy wrote the Irish Civil Aviation Authority and copied me. He is reporting the DG of NCAA for not providing automatic employment to him and other cabin crew graduates. His email paints Nigeria very badly, and he curses the DGCA,” Achimugu wrote.

He added that the email mentioned protests and questioned why the Irish CAA was brought into the matter, since civil aviation regulators are responsible for industry regulation, not employment. Airlines, not regulators, employ cabin crew and other aviation staff.

Last week, Abednego Galadima, National President of the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), raised similar concerns. He lamented that Nigerian airlines rarely invest in training new pilots and engineers, forcing many to seek opportunities abroad.

Galadima criticized airlines for preferring to hire foreign professionals, particularly in the oil and gas aviation sub-sector, instead of building a pipeline of local talent. He described this as a short-sighted cost-cutting measure that worsens Nigeria’s aviation skill gap.
