Kenya Airways pays NCAA fine over its February 2025 dispute with Nigerian passenger Gloria Omisore.

The settlement ends months of negotiations and reinforces stricter protection of travellers’ rights.

Kenya Airways has settled the penalty imposed by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) over its handling of a Nigerian traveler, Gloria Omisore, and several other passengers in February 2025.

In a statement released on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, NCAA spokesperson for Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, confirmed the payment. He explained that the resolution followed months of discussions involving the NCAA, Kenya Airways, and the Kenyan High Commission in Nigeria.

Achimugu stressed that the fine was tied to a specific incident rather than a blanket punishment. According to him, the sanction serves as a tool to encourage airlines to uphold passengers’ rights and adhere strictly to safety and service standards.

While acknowledging the payment, the NCAA highlighted that the period for resolving the underlying complaints had already passed, noting that financial penalties alone do not close such matters without full compliance with corrective measures.

The dispute stems from a viral video posted in February 2025 by Tunde Moshood, Special Assistant to the Minister of Aviation. The footage captured a confrontation at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi where Kenya Airways staff allegedly barred Omisore from boarding her connecting flight to Lagos over a visa dispute. The airline had later characterized her behavior as disruptive, but the NCAA criticized its handling of the situation, ultimately leading to the penalty now settled.
