Nigeria Launches First Centralized Passport Production Hub in Abuja
Nigeria launches its first centralized passport personalization center to transform travel document processing nationwide.
Minister Tunji-Ojo says the new system boosts efficiency and speeds up passport delivery for citizens.
Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Thursday unveiled the country’s first-ever Centralized Passport Personalization Centre at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Headquarters in Abuja, calling it a landmark reform in passport administration.

He noted that since the NIS was established in 1963, passport production had never been unified under one system until now. According to him, the development signals a major step toward modernizing service delivery and eliminating bottlenecks.
“The new facility is fully operational, allowing Nigeria to achieve greater speed, consistency, and efficiency in issuing travel documents,” Tunji-Ojo explained.
He added that the old machines were limited to between 250 and 300 passports a day, whereas the upgraded infrastructure can now handle between 4,500 and 5,000 daily a leap designed to meet rising demand and improve turnaround times for citizens.
