Dangote Refinery Rejects DAPPMAN Request to Hike Fuel Prices by N75 Per Litre

Dangote Refinery says DAPPMAN asked for a ₦75 hike on petrol and diesel to cover shipping.

The company rejects the move, warning it would raise pump prices and revive subsidy pressures.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has disclosed that the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) asked it to raise the price of petrol and diesel by N75 per litre to enable marketers align their depot prices with the refinery’s loading cost. If approved, this would push the retail cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel to roughly N950 and N1,090 per litre respectively in some parts of Nigeria.

According to the refinery, while it currently sells fuel at its official loading price, DAPPMAN wants products transported via coastal shipping, which would add about N75 per litre in extra logistics charges. Given Nigeria’s daily consumption of around 40 million litres of petrol and 15 million litres of diesel, this additional fee would amount to more than N1.5 trillion a year.

The company stated that it would not raise its loading price or absorb such costs, explaining that Nigeria cannot return to a subsidy system that had drained government finances in the past. It urged marketers to lift products directly from its loading terminals to enjoy lower costs.

The refinery also claimed that its refusal to meet DAPPMAN’s demand has led to public criticism from some marketers. It stressed that it has enough supply for the domestic market and still maintains an average monthly stock of about 500 million litres of refined products in storage.
