Speaking in Awka on Thursday, ARD-COOUTH President Dr. Joy Okwumuo said the payment reflects Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s promise to address their welfare demands. The union had embarked on a short warning strike from September 11 to 13, which was called off after the state government pledged to release the funds and review the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).

According to Okwumuo, the release of the MRTF will assist resident doctors in taking professional examinations and improve their career prospects. She praised the state government for initiating the payments and for agreeing to improve salaries, describing the move as a major step toward stabilizing healthcare services in the state.

Okwumuo also expressed confidence that the government would continue to address outstanding issues, such as recruiting more doctors and house officers to offset the effects of brain drain. She added that the doctors were committed to supporting ongoing reforms in Anambra’s health sector and working with the administration to achieve its broader health agenda.
