Osun Judiciary Workers Embark On Strike Over Welfare
Osun judiciary workers begin an indefinite strike over unpaid benefits and delayed promotions.
JUSUN accuses the Judicial Service Commission of ignoring demands, forcing a shutdown of court services.
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State chapter, on Friday directed its members to withdraw their services and stop reporting to work, citing unresolved welfare issues and delayed staff promotions.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Idris Adeniran, the union said it had been left with no choice after repeated efforts to engage the Osun State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) failed.
The union had earlier issued a three-day ultimatum on September 16, 2025, following a letter sent on September 3 demanding urgent action.
Key requests include:
- Approval of 2024 and 2025 staff promotions.
- Sponsorship of judiciary workers for National Judicial Institute training and capacity-building programs.
- Equal treatment with other ministries and parastatals that have already received government-approved benefits.
“Despite our letter of September 3, 2025, and the subsequent ultimatum, the Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission has failed to engage with JUSUN leadership. This lack of response suggests a disregard for the rule of law and industrial harmony,” Adeniran said.
Declaring an immediate strike, the union instructed all judiciary staff in Osun State to cease work and stay away from offices until further notice.
“We urge all staff to stand in solidarity and support this collective action as we strive to protect our rights and interests,” the statement read.
This latest action comes barely 18 months after Osun judiciary workers ended a three-month strike in March 2024.
