NPFL: Warri Wolves Stranded After Bus Breakdowns On Way To Maiduguri

Warri Wolves stuck in Otukpo after repeated bus breakdowns on their way to face Elkanemi Warriors.

The incident raises concerns about travel conditions and player welfare in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Warri Wolves’ journey to Maiduguri for their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Week 4 clash with Elkanemi Warriors descended into chaos after multiple bus breakdowns left the team stranded in Otukpo, Benue State.

The squad, which set out earlier in the week, first encountered trouble when their State Sports Commission bus broke down at Ibusa, Delta State.

A replacement vehicle was arranged from Asaba, but it also failed just five minutes into the trip, forcing the players and staff to wait five hours while mechanics attempted repairs.

After temporary fixes, the journey resumed only for the bus to suffer another breakdown in Otukpa, leaving the team stranded once again. They eventually made their way into Otukpo town, where they remain as of press time.

The ordeal has raised renewed concerns about player welfare, safety, and logistics in the NPFL, where inadequate travel arrangements continue to impact teams.

Warri Wolves, promoted from the Nigeria National League (NNL) last season, have enjoyed a solid start to their campaign with seven points from three matches. However, the travel disruption casts a shadow over their preparations for the crucial tie against Elkanemi Warriors.

Stakeholders are calling on league authorities to enforce proper travel and welfare standards for clubs, stressing that players should not have to endure such off-field struggles while representing their teams.
