Ondo Workers Push for Immediate Wage Increase to ₦256,950
Ondo State workers urge Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to raise the minimum wage from ₦73,000 to ₦256,950.
Labour unions cite rising living costs and call for immediate negotiations to review salaries.
Government employees in Ondo State have called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to raise the state’s minimum wage from ₦73,000 to ₦256,950, citing rising living costs and worsening economic conditions.

The appeal was contained in a formal letter submitted to the governor by the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) alongside its affiliate unions. In the letter, workers argued that the current wage no longer reflects present realities, especially after the removal of fuel subsidy and the sharp rise in prices of food, transportation, housing and healthcare.
Signed by the NLC State Chairman, Ademola Olapade, and the State Secretary, Akin Sunday, the letter urged the governor to promptly set up a negotiation committee to address their concerns. They noted that Ondo State’s oil revenue contribution and overall financial standing give it the capacity to meet the requested wage, referencing Imo State’s recently approved minimum wage of ₦104,000 as a benchmark.
The workers stressed that public servants and pensioners deserve remuneration that mirrors their contributions to the state’s economy. They maintained that government should not only implement policies and projects but also prioritize the welfare and dignity of its workforce. According to the unions, an upward review of the minimum wage to ₦256,950 would reflect the current cost of living and honor the social contract between the state and its employees.
