Tiwa Savage Urges Afrobeats Stars to Stay Humble Amid Rising Fame

Tiwa Savage urges Afrobeats artists to stay humble and grounded despite fame and success.

She says musicians are ambassadors of the genre and should never see themselves as bigger than it.

Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has urged her colleagues in the music industry to remain humble and grounded despite fame and success. Speaking during an interview with Hot 97 FM in New York, Savage cautioned that artists are merely ambassadors of the Afrobeats movement and should never see themselves as bigger than the genre itself.

“We are just ambassadors, just the faces of Afrobeats,” she said. “God can take it away like that. So, you have to be grounded. You have to be humble.” Savage emphasized that falling from grace is far more devastating than remaining underground, adding, “Imagine coming this far and then falling. That is worse than not ever tasting fame.”

Reflecting on her own career, she said her success has taught her to stay humble “just for God’s sake.”

Savage also shared her admiration for fellow artists, praising Ayra Starr’s boldness and confidence, Tems’ mystery and authenticity, and Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz for showcasing his community’s talent on a global stage.
