In a statement issued on Monday, September 22, 2025, and signed by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner heading the Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC disclosed that 17 political parties had successfully submitted their candidates’ details before the August 11, 2025 deadline.

The Commission explained that the release of the list came after the close of the period allowed for withdrawals or substitutions. It added that the names published feature essential information about each candidate, including political affiliation, age, gender, and educational qualifications.

According to the statement, once this final register has been published, no further changes to the list will be permitted except in cases where a candidate or their running mate dies before the election day, as stipulated under Section 34(1) of the Electoral Act.

INEC reaffirmed that the FCT Area Council elections will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026. The Commission advised citizens to consult its official website and verified social media handles for the full candidate list.
