Rep Calls on Atiku, Obi to Withdraw for Tinubu Ahead of 2027

Supporters say President Tinubu’s projects and policies make his 2027 reelection certain.

Opposition leaders are urged to step aside as discussions about fairness and development grow stronger across Nigeria.

The lawmaker representing Agege Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr. Wale Ahmed, has urged opposition leaders to drop any plans of challenging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election. He said the President’s second term is already certain, pointing to recent policy reforms and infrastructure projects as reasons for continued support.

Opposition parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, African Democratic Congress and New Nigeria Peoples Party have vowed to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress in the next election. Key figures in the opposition include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi and the ADC coalition led by ex-Senate President David Mark.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Agege Local Government Secretariat, Ahmed argued that Tinubu deserves a second term, saying late President Muhammadu Buhari from the North served two terms and it would be fair for Tinubu from the South to do the same. He also praised the President’s foreign engagements and economic policies, claiming they have brought new respect for Nigeria internationally and laid the groundwork for economic recovery.

“All his opponents should rest and allow him to have a second term,” Ahmed said. “By God’s grace, his second term is assured. I will mobilize my constituents to ensure Tinubu is returned for another term.”

He defended the removal of fuel subsidy as a courageous step for long-term stability, adding that the government’s “financial re-engineering” is already showing results. According to him, foreign reserves have grown to more than 40 billion dollars, foreign investment inflows have increased, inflation has slowed, and 90 billion naira has been disbursed in student loans.

Ahmed also listed several flagship infrastructure projects such as the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto–Badagry superhighway and the Abuja–Kano dual carriageway rehabilitation as evidence of the administration’s development drive. “Tinubu’s foreign trips are yielding Nigeria respect abroad,” he said. “The Sokoto–Badagry expressway had been on paper for 40 years until this administration took up the project. It will open up villages and benefit people across different states.”

Highlighting his own work in the constituency, Ahmed mentioned youth and women empowerment programmes, borehole and streetlight installations, food palliatives, medical outreach, classroom construction, skill acquisition centres and scholarships.

The meeting was attended by the Chairmen of Agege and Orile Agege Local Governments, Abdulganiyu Obasa and Abiodun Idowu, as well as traditional rulers, market leaders and community representatives, who commended Ahmed for delivering tangible projects to the constituency.
