Atiku Pledges to Prioritize Yoruba Interests if Elected President
Atiku Abubakar pledges to prioritize Yoruba interests and promote inclusivity if elected in 2027.
He highlights lifelong family and political ties to the South-West as proof of his commitment.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has promised that Yoruba interests will be central to his administration’s policies if he wins the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement released in Abuja by his media consultant Kola Johnson, Atiku dismissed fears that his presidency could lead to dominance by any ethnic group. He stressed that his family and political ties to the South-West show his commitment to inclusivity.
“I have deep bonds with the Yoruba people, and they have always held a special place in my heart,” he said, pointing to his first marriage to Titi, an Ijesha-born Yoruba woman, in the 1970s. “We have four children together, and my children sometimes call me ‘Baba Rere’, meaning good father.”
Atiku also credited Yoruba people as some of his closest friends and allies throughout his career. “Even before politics, I connected easily with people from different ethnic and religious backgrounds,” he added.
The former vice president, who came second in the last presidential election won by President Bola Tinubu, is positioning himself as a unifying candidate ahead of the 2027 polls.
