Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets began their 2025 WAFU B U-17 Championship campaign in style with a commanding 4-1 victory over the Baby Cheetahs of the Benin Republic on Wednesday in the Ivory Coast.

Benin entered the clash searching for their first points after a narrow 1-0 loss to Burkina Faso in their opening group fixture.
Coach Manu Garba’s boys wasted no time asserting dominance. In the 3rd minute, Boluwatife Thompson won a penalty, which George Agha calmly converted. Just two minutes later, David Edeh doubled the lead with a thunderous free-kick, before Agha struck again in the 14th minute.
The onslaught continued in the 32nd minute as Agha completed his hat-trick, capitalizing on a lapse by Benin goalkeeper Warris Soumanou.
Benin grabbed a consolation on the stroke of half-time when Jeremy Zannou drilled home a low effort.
The second half produced few clear chances, with Nigeria managing the game comfortably to secure all three points.
The Golden Eaglets will now face Burkina Faso in their final group match, with top spot and progression to the next round on the line.
