Skales Opens Up About Growing Up in a Hut With His Mother in Kaduna

Singer Skales has opened up about his childhood struggles, recalling life in a small Kaduna hut.

He shared how poverty shaped his journey before rising to fame in Nigeria’s music scene.

Nigerian singer Skales has reflected on his humble beginnings, sharing how he grew up with his late mother in a small hut in Kaduna.

Speaking on A TownHall Different Podcast, the artist said his journey from poverty to fame still feels surreal.

“I’ve been through a lot. I come from Kaduna from a poor family. My mum was a teacher. I used to live in a hut before we moved to like BQ. A proper, we sleep on the floor with mats, and my mom would put wrapper on the floor. So coming from that situation, to becoming who I am right now is crazy men,” Skales said.

The singer explained that his upbringing was so modest that owning a television felt like a luxury. “I never saw TV. The first time I saw TV was when EME signed me. Like to have my own TV in my room,” he said, noting how his life transformed after his big break in the music industry.
