Kano Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Killing Grandparents During Food Dispute

Kano police arrest 30-year-old Mutawakilu Ibrahim for allegedly stabbing his grandparents during a food dispute.

Authorities say the elderly couple later died at the hospital as homicide investigation begins.

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, on suspicion of killing his grandparents during a dispute at Kofar Dawanau Quarters.

Police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said in a statement on Thursday, September 25, 2025, that Ibrahim allegedly attacked the elderly couple with a knife during an argument over food.

The victims, 75-year-old Muhammad Dansokoto and 65-year-old Hadiza Tasidi, were taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, where doctors confirmed their deaths.

According to Kiyawa, the suspect, believed to have been under the influence of intoxicants at the time, was arrested soon after the incident. He said the police had opened a homicide investigation and would charge Ibrahim in court once inquiries are complete.

In the statement, the command explained that at about 9:30 a.m. on September 25, a resident of Kofar Dawanau Quarters reported the attack to Dala Divisional Police Headquarters. Officers discovered that Ibrahim allegedly used a knife to stab both grandparents multiple times, inflicting fatal injuries.

The bodies of the deceased were examined and later handed over to their family for burial in line with Islamic practices. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s homicide unit for further investigation, following instructions from Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
