Shooting at Michigan Mormon Church Leaves One Dead, Several Injured
A gunman attacked a Michigan church, leaving one dead and several worshippers injured on Sunday.
Police shot the suspect dead after he crashed his car, opened fire and set fires.
A tragic attack unfolded on Sunday at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, leaving one person dead and several others injured. Authorities confirmed that the suspect, a 40-year-old man from a nearby town, was fatally shot by responding law enforcement officers. Investigators have not yet identified a motive for the incident.

According to local police, the attacker crashed his vehicle into the front entrance of the church before opening fire on worshippers with an assault-style rifle. The church was reportedly filled with hundreds of congregants attending a Sunday service when the shooting began. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, with images showing smoke rising from the building and victims being carried out on stretchers.
Police Chief William Renye stated that the suspect also set the building on fire, compounding the chaos inside. “We do believe that we will find additional victims once we have that scene secure,” he said. The fire was later brought under control by firefighters, but several parts of the building sustained serious damage.
Authorities reported that at least ten gunshot victims were taken to nearby hospitals, one of whom later died. Federal Bureau of Investigation agents have joined local police to help with the ongoing investigation.
Community members described the moments of terror as the attack unfolded. A woman living nearby said her husband heard people screaming for help. “It was terrifying,” she told reporters.
In response to the incident, President Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, calling the shooting “horrendous” and expressing sympathy for the victims. State officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, have been briefed on the attack.
Law enforcement agencies continue to search the building and surrounding area for evidence as they piece together what led to the deadly assault.
