Interpol Nigeria Arrests and Repatriates Beninese Fugitive
Nigeria Police Interpol operatives have arrested and repatriated notorious fugitive Sunday Kotin to face justice.
Authorities say the cross-border suspect was linked to banditry, arms trafficking and narcotics smuggling.
The Nigeria Police Force National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol has captured and repatriated a high-profile fugitive from Benin Republic, identified as Sunday Kotin, to face justice in his home country.

Force spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin said in a statement that Interpol in Benin had requested Nigeria’s support in apprehending Kotin, who is accused of cross-border banditry, firearms trafficking, cattle rustling and narcotics smuggling.
Investigations indicated that seven of Kotin’s alleged accomplices are already on trial in Benin, while he fled across the border to evade arrest. Acting on intelligence, NPF-NCB operatives mounted a covert operation in Idi Iroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, which led to Kotin’s arrest. He was subsequently questioned and transferred to Interpol officials in Cotonou.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun lauded the operation, emphasizing that Nigeria will not provide refuge to fugitives or criminal networks. He reiterated the Force’s commitment to defending the country’s sovereignty, deepening international law enforcement cooperation and upholding the rule of law, assuring both Nigerians and global partners of sustained efforts against transnational crime.
