Command spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim said in a statement on Saturday, September 27, 2025, that the officer was assaulted while on duty at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru.

According to the statement, the attackers fled with the officer’s AK-47 rifle, leaving him unconscious at the scene. However, a swift tactical response by police operatives led to the recovery of the rifle, its magazines, and a knife jacket believed to have been used during the assault.

Abdulkarim identified the suspects as Jarma Hussaini Adam, 25, and 16-year-old Mohammed Abdusalam, also known as “Uzaifa,” both from Sabon Garin Kanuri in Nguru. He said the two were arrested by officers from the Nguru Divisional Police Headquarters following the attack.

He explained that on September 26, at about 7 p.m., Corporal Ali was discovered bleeding and unconscious during a routine patrol around the hospital premises, with his service weapon missing. A coordinated search later led to the recovery of the items, which had been dumped in various locations around the Sabon Garin Kanuri swamp area.

The injured officer is currently receiving treatment, while the suspects remain in custody.

The Command described the incident as a direct challenge to law enforcement authority, stressing that any assault on police personnel would be treated as both a criminal act and an attack on the rule of law.
