Afrobeats star Davido has revealed that he almost walked away from music before the release of his hit collaboration with Omah Lay, “With You”.
The track has since gone on to become one of the standout songs from his recent album, amassing millions of streams across platforms. Speaking in a recent interview, Davido admitted he never imagined it would become the most loved record on the project.
He explained that after more than a decade in the industry, he had started considering stepping back from music. The success of “With You”, however, rekindled his passion and gave him fresh energy for his career.
“We thank God. 13 or 14 years after for me to have this kind of song, people have this kind of song at the beginning of their career or in the middle. Me that was even getting ready to bow out then God gives me this kind of song. He definitely added more life to it,” Davido said.
Reflecting on the timing, the singer noted how unusual it was to experience such a breakthrough so late into a career, describing the song’s success as a blessing that reignited his love for performing.
