FG Says Dangote Will Redeploy Disengaged Refinery Staff, Assures No Pay Cuts
The Federal Government says disengaged Dangote Refinery workers will be redeployed across the Group with full pay.
It confirmed PENGASSAN will suspend its strike after both parties reached a compromise.
The Federal Government says the Dangote Group will place refinery workers who were recently disengaged into roles across its companies, with their salaries intact, after talks to end its dispute with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
Labour and Employment Minister, Dr Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, announced the outcome on Wednesday in Abuja. He said the meeting reviewed how the workers were let go and agreed on immediate redeployment “with no loss of pay.” He added that no employee would be punished for their part in the industrial dispute.
According to the minister, both sides also reached a compromise that will see PENGASSAN begin the process of calling off its strike. He restated that workers are free to join unions under Nigerian law and that this right must be upheld.
The conciliation followed a failed round of talks on Monday between refinery management and PENGASSAN. The union had accused the refinery of mass transfers and sackings targeting union members and of replacing some Nigerians with foreign staff, claims the company denied. The standoff escalated when PENGASSAN halted gas and crude oil supplies to the refinery, prompting federal intervention over the risks to the economy and energy security.
