Arsenal Begin Talks Over New Deal for Jurrien Timber

Arsenal have opened contract talks with defender Jurrien Timber after his impressive return from injury.

The Gunners hope to secure his long-term future as part of Arteta’s squad plans.

Arsenal have opened discussions with Dutch defender Jurrien Timber over a new long-term contract as the club looks to secure his future following his return to top form.

The 24-year-old joined the Gunners from Ajax in the summer of 2023 in a transfer worth £34.4 million. However, his debut season in England was cut short when he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the opening Premier League match against Nottingham Forest. That setback restricted him to just two appearances in the 2023/24 campaign.

Timber bounced back strongly the following season, making 51 appearances in all competitions in 2024/25. His consistent performances helped him establish himself as first-choice right-back in Mikel Arteta’s system. He has continued that form into the current season, playing a central role in Arsenal’s promising start to the campaign.

According to reports from BBC Sport, negotiations over a new deal are still in the early stages but there is confidence on both sides that an agreement will be reached. Timber’s current contract runs until 2028, but Arsenal want to extend that and secure his services further into the future as part of their long-term squad building.

The club has already tied down key players in recent months, with central defender William Saliba signing a new five-year deal. Talks are also progressing with England forward Bukayo Saka, with optimism that he will commit to a fresh contract soon.
