Ondo Teacher Remanded Over Alleged Murder of Man in Akungba-Akoko

A 51-year-old teacher has been arraigned in Ondo for allegedly beating a man to death.

The Magistrate’s Court ordered his remand while awaiting advice from prosecutors.

The Ondo State Police Command has charged a 51-year-old teacher, Gbogidi Ojo Williams, before a Magistrate’s Court in Akure for allegedly beating a man, Abayomi Olamitoke, to death.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, told the court that the incident occurred on September 16, 2025, around 2:30 p.m. at Akunmi Quarters in Akungba-Akoko. He alleged that the defendant, along with others who are still at large, conspired to commit a felony and unlawfully killed the victim.

The charge sheet presented in court stated that Williams and his accomplices “did unlawfully assault one Abayomi Olamitoke by beating him, which resulted in his death.” Oniyere added that the alleged offence contravened Sections 324 and 316 of the Ondo State Criminal Code and is punishable under Section 319.

The court, however, did not take Williams’s plea during the brief session. The prosecutor asked the court to order his remand while awaiting legal advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

In response, defence counsel Benjamin Adeyanju applied for an adjournment to allow time to file a counter-affidavit on behalf of his client.

Presiding Magistrate Odenusi-Fadeyi Olateju ruled that Williams be kept in custody at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ondo State Police Command. The matter was subsequently adjourned until October 7, 2025, for further hearing.
