Jonathan Refutes Claims Linking Buhari to Boko Haram

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied claims that he linked ex-President Buhari to Boko Haram.

He clarified his remarks were misinterpreted, stressing he only cited the group’s past negotiation tactics.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed reports linking his recent remarks to claims that the late President Muhammadu Buhari had ties with Boko Haram, saying his words were taken out of context.

In a statement by his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan said his comments at the public presentation of a book written by former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, were wrongly interpreted. He explained that his reference to Buhari being named by Boko Haram as a possible negotiator during his administration was only to highlight how the insurgents sought to manipulate the government’s peace efforts.

The former president stressed that he never implied or suggested that Buhari had any relationship with the terrorist group or supported its activities in any way.

According to the statement, Jonathan’s intention was to shed light on the deceitful tactics used by Boko Haram during the early stages of the insurgency.

It further urged Nigerians to disregard the false reports and focus on the essence of Jonathan’s message, which, it said, reflected his continued commitment to national peace, unity, and the promotion of democratic ideals across the country.
