Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr have emerged as Nigeria’s top contenders for the 2026 Grammys.
Their songs and albums lead multiple global categories ahead of the official nominations in November.
Nigerian Afrobeats stars Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr have emerged as the leading contenders among artists who submitted entries for the “2026 Grammy Awards”, according to Grammy monitoring platform “The Grammy Guru”.
The platform released a list showing songs and projects submitted by several Nigerian artists for consideration across top global categories, including “Album of the Year”, “Record of the Year”, and “Best African Music Performance”.
Wizkid recorded the most Grammy submissions among Nigerian artists this year. His project Morayo was put forward for Album of the Year and Best Global Album, while his hit single Piece of My Heart was listed in the Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best African Music Performance categories.
He also submitted Kese (Dance), a music video he directed himself, for Best Music Video, and his collaboration with Olamide and Darkoo, Billionaires Club, for Best African Music Performance.
Burna Boy entered his album No Sign of Weakness for both Album of the Year and Best Global Album. His track Love was submitted under Best African Music Performance, and his joint song with French musician Joé Dwèt Filé, Kampé III, was listed for Best Global Music Performance.
Ayra Starr also joined the race with her single Hot Body, submitted for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Her collaboration with Wizkid, Gimme Dat, was put forward for Best African Music Performance and Best Music Video.
The Recording Academy will review and vote on all submissions before announcing the official nominees in November 2025.
Meanwhile, Nigerian superstar Davido recently became a “voting member” of the Recording Academy, further boosting Nigeria’s influence in the global music scene.
