UNN Disowns Science Minister Nnaji, Says He Never Graduated
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has denied awarding a degree to Science Minister Uche Nnaji.
It said records show he never graduated, refuting claims that his certificate was genuine.
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has dismissed claims that it awarded a degree to the Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, stating that he never completed his program at the institution.

In a letter to Premium Times, Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Ortuanya confirmed that although Nnaji gained admission into the university in 1981, records show he did not graduate.
According to the letter, the university could not authenticate the certificate Nnaji claimed to have earned. “Based on available records, there is no evidence that he graduated in July 1985, and the university did not issue the alleged certificate,” Ortuanya wrote.
An investigation further revealed that both the minister’s UNN and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificates were fake. The report noted that the NYSC document was signed by an official who was not yet in office in 1986 and reflected a 13-month service period that began before his supposed graduation date.
Sources within the university disclosed that Nnaji failed several key courses and was advised to withdraw. His name was also absent from the official list of graduates in 1985.
The findings indicate that Nnaji, who has long claimed to hold a degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology, never completed his studies and allegedly forged both his university and NYSC certificates.
