Atiku And Obi Alliance Could Challenge Tinubu In 2027, Says Olarewaju
Demola Olarewaju says an Atiku–Obi alliance could become Nigeria’s strongest opposition force in 2027.
He believes their shared vision and leadership qualities could unite Nigerians under a joint political front.
Demola Olarewaju, the Special Assistant on Digital Media Strategy to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has said that an alliance between Atiku and Peter Obi could form the most formidable opposition ticket against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on the “Mic On Podcast,” Olarewaju argued that such a partnership could unite Nigerians under what he described as a “co-presidency” that combines the leadership qualities of both men. “I think the best bet would be to have the two of them on that ticket and give Nigerians this sort of sense of co-presidency,” he said.
Olarewaju praised Atiku’s resilience and political maturity, describing him as someone who remains committed to the party’s success even after losing in primaries. He recalled how Atiku supported former President Goodluck Jonathan after the 2011 primaries and helped deliver Adamawa State to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). “That’s who Atiku Abubakar is,” he noted.
He also highlighted the need for greater youth inclusion in Nigeria’s political system, commending the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for its plan to allocate between 35 and 50 percent of its party positions to youths and women. According to him, Nigeria needs a political platform that recognizes and empowers the younger generation.
Olarewaju further mentioned that Atiku has previously stated his readiness to step aside for a younger candidate if defeated in a fair primary. However, he maintained that Atiku remains the most viable opposition figure at present. He concluded that a joint ticket between Atiku and Obi would represent a powerful political force, as both share similar ideologies and a vision for national unity and reform.
