According to a statement released by the corps’ spokesperson, Mr. Abass Yusuf, the attack happened around 10:05 p.m. along Ikirun Road, opposite Charity Hotel, while the commander was driving home after official duties. Yusuf said the attackers opened fire on Omoyele’s vehicle, leaving it riddled with bullets.

He added that later that same night, about 15 armed men wearing masks reportedly invaded Omoyele’s private residence. Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in a Hilux van and a Toyota Highlander SUV, but fled the scene after failing to gain access.

Yusuf described the incident as disturbing, noting that it highlights growing threats to security officials who dedicate their lives to protecting the public. He appealed to residents to stay calm and support security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious movements in their communities.

“The attack is not just on one person but on the entire symbol of local security in Osun State,” he said.

Omoyele was said to have sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility under close protection. The case has been reported to the Ota-Efun Police Division, and an investigation has begun to track down the assailants.
