Bruno Fernandes Rejects Al-Hilal €230m Offer to Remain at Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes has snubbed a jaw-dropping €230 million offer from Al-Hilal, choosing to stay in Europe and continue competing at football’s highest level with Manchester United.

Despite interest from Saudi Arabia, the Portuguese star affirmed his loyalty and ambition, aiming for more success at Old Trafford after an impressive season with 19 goals and 19 assists.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has turned down a record-breaking offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, opting to continue his career in Europe despite being heavily linked with a summer move to the Middle East.

Reports confirmed that Al-Hilal were prepared to pay a staggering €120 million transfer fee to Manchester United, alongside a €230 million salary package over three years, one of the most lucrative deals ever proposed to a European-based player. However, Fernandes has rejected the move, stating his desire to stay and compete at the highest level in European football.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano broke the news on X (Twitter), writing:

“EXCLUSIVE: Bruno Fernandes has REJECTED Al Hilal proposal. Despite a crazy contract proposal from the Saudi Pro League club, Bruno Fernandes wants to continue playing football in Europe. Man United captain wants to play at top level in Europe. Decision made.”

The 30-year-old Portuguese international has two years remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford and is now expected to remain with United until at least the summer of 2026. Fernandes was a standout performer in the 2024/25 season, notching 19 goals and 19 assists in 57 appearances across all competitions.

Amorim praises Fernandes’ leadership

Speaking during United’s post-season tour in Asia, manager Ruben Amorim lauded Fernandes’ commitment and impact on the team amid growing transfer rumors.

“You can see by the performance, the leadership, the passion he has for the game. He’s really important, especially in moments like the final stretch of the season.

“The team goes through different phases, and Bruno always steps up. He wants the ball, takes responsibility exactly what you expect from a captain,” Amorim said, referencing Fernandes’ display in United’s match against Aston Villa.

Despite Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final, Fernandes was praised for his performance and character throughout the tournament.

A statement of ambition

Fernandes’ decision to stay signals not just loyalty but ambition. Turning down a £200 million contract from Saudi Arabia underlines his commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in Europe, where he believes he still has more to achieve. His market value currently stands at approximately €54.8 million, with an estimated transfer value (ETV) range of €49.3 million to €60.3 million, according to FootballTransfers.

Since joining Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, Fernandes has become a central figure at the club, known for his creativity, work rate, and leadership. He has scored over 70 goals and provided numerous assists during his time at Old Trafford.

With Fernandes choosing to stay, Manchester United will now look to build around their captain as they seek to bounce back from a disappointing season and return to title contention in both domestic and European competitions.
