Omawumi Says Cobhams Asuquo Changed Her Life After One Song Collaboration
Singer Omawumi has shared how collaborating with producer Cobhams Asuquo transformed her music career.
She said their unexpected project opened doors to major endorsement deals and boosted her confidence.
Nigerian singer Omawumi has revealed that her music career took a major turn after working on a song with ace producer Cobhams Asuquo.

Speaking in an interview with Hip TV, Omawumi said Cobhams called her unexpectedly to collaborate on a song, an opportunity that later opened doors to major endorsement deals and set her on a new path in music.
She recalled: “The first time we met, he just called. I knew we met on the show, and he said, ‘Omawumi, this is Cobhams Asuquo, you know he likes to funkify his name. There is a song I want you to do. It might not come out as anything for now, but let’s just go with it.”
“I did the song, and then the agency picked it. I became the brand ambassador for that product for two years. Cobhams taught me a lot of nuances when it comes to delivery and posture.”
The ‘Bottom Belle’ singer, who gained fame after finishing as runner-up on Idols West Africa in 2007, said Cobhams was one of the first people who believed in her and helped her refine her sound.
She added that the collaboration led to multiple opportunities and helped her grow into a more confident performer.
Cobhams Asuquo, who has worked with stars like Asa, Timi Dakolo, Waje, and Banky W, also produced some of Omawumi’s most successful songs.
