Enugu Governor Peter Mbah Set to Join APC on October 14
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah is set to defect from the PDP to the APC on October 14, 2025.
Party officials say the move will strengthen APC’s presence and influence in the South East.
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, is reportedly finalizing arrangements to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The formal declaration is scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Enugu, the state capital.

Reliable sources within both political parties confirmed that the defection ceremony will be organized on a grand scale and will mark a major political shift in the South East. Governor Mbah is expected to be accompanied by several top government officials, including state and federal lawmakers, members of the State Executive Council, and political leaders from all 17 local government areas and wards in the state.
According to party sources, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and the party’s Deputy National Chairman (South), Hon. Emma Eneukwu, hinted at the governor’s impending defection during the inauguration of a seven-member caretaker committee for the APC in Enugu. The leaders described the development as part of broader efforts to expand the party’s base in the South East and consolidate its presence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Confirming the plans, the newly inaugurated Chairman of the Enugu State APC Caretaker Committee, Dr. Ben Nwoye, told reporters at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja that Governor Mbah and his political associates will be formally welcomed into the APC fold next week.
“The governor and his appointees will officially be received into the APC on October 14. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for Enugu State under the leadership of the ruling party,” Dr. Nwoye said.
The move comes days after the APC National Working Committee (NWC) dissolved the Enugu State Working Committee and replaced it with a caretaker team to oversee party affairs.
Political observers believe Mbah’s defection could significantly alter the political landscape of Enugu State and boost APC’s influence in the South East region, fostering closer ties between the state and the federal government.
