North-Central APC Praises Tinubu for Appointing Amupitan as INEC Chairman

The North-Central APC Forum has praised President Tinubu for appointing Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN) as INEC Chairman.

It said the move recognizes the region’s talent and will boost electoral transparency in Nigeria.

The North-Central chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has praised President Bola Tinubu for naming Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the group also expressed appreciation to the National Council of State for confirming Amupitan’s appointment.

Zazzaga described the decision as a recognition of the North-Central region’s pool of qualified professionals capable of serving in key national roles. He said the Forum was confident that Amupitan’s appointment would strengthen the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system.

“The North-Central APC Forum received with great pride the appointment of one of our illustrious sons, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, as INEC Chairman. This shows the quality of human resources the region offers to the country,” the statement said.

He added that Amupitan’s record as a respected legal scholar and administrator makes him well-suited for the job, especially as the nation prepares for future elections.

“We commend President Bola Tinubu for this appointment and thank the National Council of State for endorsing it. Professor Amupitan’s experience as a lawyer, academic, and administrator gives us confidence that he will conduct credible and transparent elections,” Zazzaga stated.

The Forum also urged Nigerians, political parties, and stakeholders in the electoral process to support the new INEC chairman as he assumes office.

Professor Amupitan, who hails from Ayetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, is a Professor of Law at the University of Jos. He specializes in Company Law, Evidence, Corporate Governance, and Privatization Law.

He was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 2014 after years of distinction in legal practice and academia. Before his appointment, Amupitan served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos and as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Osun State.

The Forum expressed optimism that his leadership at INEC would usher in improved transparency and credibility in Nigeria’s elections.
