PDP Convention to Hold Despite Defections, Says Bauchi Governor
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed says PDP national convention will hold in Ibadan from November 15 to 16 as planned.
He assured that defections and internal disagreements will not disrupt the party’s preparations.
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has assured that the party’s forthcoming national convention will go on as scheduled, despite ongoing defections and internal disagreements.

The convention is set to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, between November 15 and 16, where 19 new members of the National Working Committee are expected to be elected.
Speaking on Saturday in Abuja during the inauguration of PDP National Convention Publicity and Communication Subcommittee, Governor Mohammed said no internal crisis or external influence would derail the process.
He reaffirmed that PDP remains united and determined to rebuild itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The convention is here to stay. We are going to Ibadan by the grace of God. No one will stop us. We have been through challenges as a party and have continued to stand strong,” he said.
Mohammed also urged party members to remain focused, describing the convention as a critical step in reshaping Nigeria’s political future. He noted that Nigerians were going through difficult times and called on PDP to lead efforts toward national renewal.
“We have to change the narrative and the style of governance in this country. Nigerians have suffered greatly under the current administration, and we must use this opportunity to restore hope,” he said.
His comments come amid reports of discontent within the party, particularly from supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who have questioned the leadership of the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and the zoning arrangement for the convention.
There are also speculations that Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, are considering defection to the All Progressives Congress before the convention.
Governor Mohammed dismissed fears that such defections would destabilize PDP, stressing that loyalty and resilience define true party members.
“Don’t be discouraged by the defections or the noise from those who doubt us. Staying back to build the party is what makes one strong. Leaving because of challenges is not the answer,” he told the committee members.
He encouraged the committee to intensify public enlightenment and strengthen communication efforts ahead of the convention, saying Nigerians are looking to PDP for leadership.
PDP’s decision to hold a national convention was reached during its 101st National Executive Committee meeting on July 24, as part of efforts to reform the party and strengthen its internal democracy.
