Popular Nigerian singer Wizkid has confidently declared himself the top Afrobeat artist in the country.
The Grammy-winning star made the bold statement amid renewed social media debates over Nigeria’s “Big 3”, a term used to describe Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy as the nation’s biggest global music exports.
Taking to his Instagram story, Wizkid wrote on a whiteboard: “Type sht. Big Wiz. Number 1,” a message that immediately set off fresh conversations among fans about who truly leads the Afrobeat scene.
His post has since stirred mixed reactions online, with some supporters hailing his confidence, while others insisted that all three artists have made equally historic contributions to the genre.
Wizkid’s statement came a month after singer Tiwa Savage questioned the exclusion of fellow star Tems from discussions about Nigeria’s “Big 3,” saying, “I feel like it’s unfair to have conversations about the Top 3 and not mention Tems.”
