Tiwa Savage Opens Up on Feud With Seyi Shay, Says She Never Tried to Block Anyone’s Career
Tiwa Savage said her feud with Seyi Shay began after a diss track and false claims that she blocked opportunities for other female artistes.
She denied the rumors, saying she has always supported women and never tried to sabotage anyone’s career.
Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has finally spoken in detail about her longstanding feud with fellow artist Seyi Shay, years after their viral salon confrontation made headlines.
Speaking on the Off Air with Gbemi and Toolz podcast uploaded on Saturday, the Somebody’s Son crooner explained that the conflict between her and Seyi Shay began after a diss track and allegations that she tried to block opportunities for other female artistes.
Tiwa, however, firmly denied ever sabotaging anyone’s career, saying she has always supported other women in the industry.
“If you do something to me, I will let you know. I don’t have to let you know online. Like the whole shade thing, I’m not going to pretend like you and I are cool in a salon when you did a diss track,” she said.
The award-winning singer recalled being hurt by the rumors that she was blocking Seyi Shay and Victoria Kimani from securing deals.
“That was painful, and I didn’t know where it was coming from. Till today, maybe I need to have a conversation with Shay. I heard that they thought I blocked their bag. How? If you’ve heard from anybody that I tried to block your bag, mention the person so I can address it. I would never do that, I’m so pro-women,” Tiwa said.
She also revealed that, contrary to the accusations, she had actually lost an endorsement deal to Seyi Shay years ago when she was pregnant with her son, Jamil.
“When I got pregnant and had Jamil, I was taken off a Pepsi campaign, Longer Throat, and Shay was booked on it. Go back and check it, Shay was a brand ambassador, I wasn’t. I was taken off because I couldn’t snap back in time. So how am I stopping other people’s bag? I wasn’t even mad. I got in the gym and got my body back,” she added.
The feud between Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay dates back to 2017 after Seyi reportedly threw shade at her during the Fvck You Challenge by Kizz Daniel. Their tension culminated in the infamous 2021 salon confrontation, one of the most talked about celebrity clashes in Nigerian entertainment history.
