Barcelona Extend Frenkie De Jong’s Contract Until 2029
FC Barcelona has reached a new long-term agreement with midfielder Frenkie de Jong, extending his stay until 2029.
The Dutch star’s renewal ends transfer rumors and strengthens Barcelona’s rebuilding plans under Hansi Flick.
FC Barcelona has confirmed reaching an agreement with Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong on a new long-term contract that will keep him at the club until June 2029.

The Spanish giants announced that the formal signing ceremony will take place on Wednesday, marking another major step in their ongoing efforts to secure the future of their key players.
Football journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed the update in a post on X, writing that Barcelona had concluded talks with the player and agreed on a deal valid until 2029.
De Jong, 28, joined the Catalan side in 2019 from Ajax and has since become one of the most reliable figures in the club’s midfield. Known for his calmness on the ball, intelligent positioning, and passing accuracy, he has played a vital role under several managers, including current coach Hansi Flick.
The renewal ends years of speculation linking De Jong to top European clubs such as Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. His new contract signals Barcelona’s firm decision to build its next generation around experienced players who have shown long-term loyalty to the team.
Since his arrival, De Jong has made more than 200 appearances across all competitions and helped Barcelona win the Copa del Rey in 2021. His performances have also been instrumental in the club’s domestic and Champions League campaigns.
The club recently renewed deals with several others as part of efforts to maintain stability and competitiveness both on and off the pitch.
De Jong’s new contract is expected to provide Barcelona with consistency in midfield as they continue their rebuild under Flick’s leadership.
