According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Media Information Officer of Operation Whirl Stroke 14, Joint Task Force Headquarters, Ahmad Zubairu, the suspected traffickers abandoned the car and fled upon sighting the soldiers.

Zubairu said the operation took place on October 14, 2025, at Anguwan Malama in Akwanga, when troops flagged down an ash-coloured Toyota Solara bearing Lagos registration number KJA-108FY. The occupants reportedly abandoned the vehicle and escaped into the surrounding bushes before the soldiers could apprehend them.

He explained that a detailed search of the vehicle revealed multiple bags filled with substances suspected to be cannabis. Both the car and the recovered items have been taken into military custody pending further investigation and handover to the appropriate agencies.

The Commander of the Joint Task Force, Major General Moses Gara, conveyed his appreciation to the troops through the Commander of Sector 2, Brigadier General D.C. Nwakonobi. He praised their alertness, professionalism, and commitment, which he said led to the successful interception.

Gara reaffirmed that Operation Whirl Stroke remains committed to curbing criminal activities, strengthening cooperation among security agencies, and maintaining peace across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States.
