Ojedeyi was kidnapped around 2 p.m. on September 29, 2025, along the Mashegu axis of Niger State, through the Felegu–Ibbi road. Her abductors initially demanded a ransom of N200 million, which was later reduced to N10 million following negotiations. The kidnappers had also issued a one-week deadline, warning that failure to comply could lead to severe consequences.

Her release was confirmed on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, by the National Association of Osun State Students, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto Chapter (NAOSS-UDUS).

In a statement signed by the association’s president, Adedamola Adam Oluwafisola, through the general secretary, Olarinde Sodiq Opeyemi, the group announced that Ojedeyi was freed on October 13.

“We remain deeply grateful to Nigerians for their support, prayers, and efforts that contributed to the release of Radiographer Basheerah Ojedeyi,” the statement read in part. “May no family ever experience such trauma again, and may God continue to protect us all.”
