Three More PDP Governors Set to Resign, Says Fayose

Former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose says three more PDP governors are set to join the APC soon.

He blamed internal power struggles for weakening the party and fuelling the ongoing defections.

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has claimed that three additional governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are preparing to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), deepening the internal crisis within the opposition.

Fayose made the revelation on Wednesday, October 15, during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television program, while reacting to the recent resignation of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri from the PDP.

According to the former governor, the defection wave is only beginning and may soon leave the PDP with just five governors. “There are three more governors that will leave soon. Only five will remain, and even among them, one will struggle to get the party’s ticket,” he said, adding that the PDP’s structure had become weak and unstable.

Fayose accused some PDP governors of weakening the party due to internal power struggles and their determination to control its machinery. He argued that this same problem contributed to the PDP’s poor performance in the 2023 elections.

He dismissed allegations that President Bola Tinubu was forcing governors to defect to the APC, insisting that the defections were driven by political survival rather than pressure from the presidency. “President Tinubu is not responsible for the PDP’s problems. The party has serious internal issues and remains in a state of disarray,” he said.

Fayose also stated that he holds no responsibility for resolving the party’s crisis, stressing that the current leadership must address the consequences of its actions.

His comments follow the exit of several PDP governors including those of Enugu, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa who have defected to the APC in recent weeks, further reducing the party’s influence nationwide.
