Bandits Ambush, K!ll Eight Security Personnel on Patrol in Zamfara

Eight security officers have been k!lled in a bandit ambush along the Gusau–Funtua road in Zamfara.

Governor Dauda Lawal mourned the victims and vowed continued efforts to restore peace.

Eight security operatives, including five policemen and three Community Protection Guards, have been k!lled by bandits while on patrol along the Gusau–Funtua road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

An eyewitness from the area, Ya’u Musa, said the officers were ambushed on Thursday evening, October 16, 2025, near Gidan-Giye village, a few kilometres from Tsafe town.

According to Musa, the patrol team was heading toward the village when the attackers suddenly emerged from hiding and opened fire on their vehicle. He said all the security personnel died instantly during the attack.

Musa suggested that the bandits might have been tipped off by informants about the movement of the officers, who were reportedly deployed from Government House, Gusau, on a special security assignment to protect motorists along the highway.

He added that the gunmen fled into the forest on motorcycles immediately after the assault, leaving the bodies of the slain operatives at the scene. The remains of the victims were later taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau.

Governor Dauda Lawal, while confirming the incident, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the security personnel and extended his condolences to their families.

In a statement, he said, “I am deeply saddened by the k!lling of eight security men, including policemen and members of the Community Protection Guards, who were ambushed along the Gusau–Funtua road. May God forgive their shortcomings and grant their families the strength to bear this painful loss. We continue to pray for lasting peace and an end to insecurity in Zamfara, the North, and Nigeria as a whole.”
