Security operatives made up of police and military personnel reportedly arrived at the protest site around 7 a.m. on Monday and dispersed the crowd. A viral video showed Sowore and several protesters running as shots were fired and tear gas filled the air.

The protesters had planned to march toward Aso Rock Villa to demand Kanu’s release. However, the police had earlier warned the group against holding any demonstration close to the presidential area, citing security concerns.

Newskobo.com earlier reported that Omoyele Sowore had vowed to challenge the court order stopping the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in Abuja.
